BGMI Ban

On July 28, the popular battle royale game BGMI was abruptly removed from the Google Play Store and the App Store, sending a massive shockwave through the Indian gaming community. Following Google's announcement that the game would be removed due to a government order, fans and all players in the community have been extremely disappointed.

A day later, Reuter media reports confirmed that the Indian government had banned BGMI under the same provisional law that had been used to ban Chinese apps since 2020. Apparently, Krafton met with MeitY officials, but no inside information has been released. BGMI has carved out a niche for itself in the Indian gaming community and given birth to an unrivalled esports ecosystem in the country.

BGMI's ban has shattered the dreams and hopes of fans and professional players, despite its remarkable popularity and role in developing the Indian esports ecosystem.

BGMI Ban: Fans are dissatisfied with the game's removal from the Play Store and App Store.

Following a government order, BGMI has been explicitly banned in India.

"This comes as a surprise because the growth of esports in India has been phenomenal." If something happens to BGMI (India's top esports game), everything will come to a halt. Trust will be broken. People who HOPED will remain hopeless," says Naman Mathur of S8UL Esports, better known as Mortal.

The reason for the app's removal from both download stores remains unknown, and the reported ban is being challenged by several players. BGMI Maker responded to MySmartPrice after they were contacted about the problem. "We are clarifying how BGMI was removed from the Google Play and App stores and will let you know as soon as we have specific information," Krafton said in an official statement.

"All this does is make the Indian market look like a circus," said one commentator in response to the abrupt removal. No stability = no reason to invest = no growth of the games ecosystem = poorer economy, business potential, and job opportunities. Because the Indian gaming industry will suffer if this is a long-term ban," Rishi Alwani writes on Twitter.

Ghatak, a well-known IGC personality, tweeted, "Everyone knows that esports in India has rapidly reached new heights and has recently been televised." I hope our government understands that BGMI affects the lives of thousands of esports athletes and content creators." He also stated that the number of BGMI audiences is quite large, second only to Cricket.

Fans are outraged by the game's removal and reported ban, and they want the game to return. No one knows the exact reason for the app's mysterious suspension at the moment, and everyone is waiting for an official response as well as clarification on the matter. "The sudden removal is most likely a prelude to a blanket ban." This decision will only harm the gaming ecosystem," Pranav Papalia, founder of gaming community OpraahFX, told the Indian Express. "There is a million multi-million dollar economy revolving around these games, and there are carriers associated with it," he added. So prohibiting it makes no sense to me."

"Despite the developers changing the server location and game elements, this has still occurred in accordance with government regulations." "I believe this is completely incorrect and will have an impact on online gaming streamers like myself, who rely on BGMI for a living," says Abhay Singh aka Thugboimax, a popular YouTuber with 28 lakh subscribers.

While the ban disappointed millions of players and organizations, few believe that BGMI has been in the news for all the wrong reasons and that this was unavoidable. "With the recent incident of a boy killing his mother over a BGMI argument, the game had once again come under the radar of the government and marked it as unsafe for young adults," said Rohit Agarwal, Alpha Zegus' founder, and director. After the matricide media report in Lucknow, an NGO in India called Prahar urged the government to take action against the game. The organization thanked the government for banning the game after it was removed.

BGMI is allegedly prohibited under Section 69A of the IT Act, the same law that is used to prohibit Chinese apps that pose a threat to national security. Tencent is believed to have some significant stakes in Krafton, the links, and relationships of which Prahar has questioned. Following the announcement that BGMI had been banned for national security reasons, several people have asked for a ban on several companies operating in India in which Tencent has a stake.

The Indian government has yet to make a public announcement regarding the game's ban, and Krafton has also not revealed any information on the subject. It remains to be seen whether the game is permanently banned in the coming days or if Krafton can get it back on the line. Let us cross our fingers and hope for the best while we wait for the game to return.
