Jurassic World Dominion (2022)

Jurassic World Dominion will be released in 2022, four years after Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, completing the second Jurassic trilogy centred on the aftermath of the titular theme park. Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World director) will be back in charge, putting Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt through their paces.

Jurassic World Dominion was originally scheduled to hit theatres on June 11, 2021. However, the COVID-19 pandemic forced all productions to halt due to safety and health concerns, resulting in a year-long delay, along with long-term theatre closures. The original release date was set in February of 2018, but principal photography on Jurassic World Dominion did not begin until late February of 2020. The official release date for Jurassic World 3 has been set for June 10, 2022.

If Steven Spielberg's reaction to Jurassic World 3 is any indication, fans of the franchise should be especially excited about the third instalment. Unlike many other popular reboot franchises, the Jurassic Park series hasn't been marred by controversy over its actors or directors, with the only flaw being the delays (obviously, these circumstances were unavoidable). With that in mind, here's everything you need to know about Jurassic World Dominion, including its release date, cast, plot details, and more.

About Jurassic World Dominion Movie (2022)

It's been five years since the Isla Nublar was destroyed. Humans and dinosaurs now have to coexist. Will humanity be able to survive in the face of history's most fearsome beasts?

The film is the third and final installment of the Jurassic World trilogy and the sixth overall in the Jurassic Park franchise.

Jurassic World 3 Story

While the main plot of Jurassic World Dominion has largely remained a mystery, audiences are already aware of the returning cast of characters and how the previous film set them up to return in the latest installment. Claire and Owen will most likely work alongside (or against) Alan, Ellie, and Ian to deal with the dinosaurs that have escaped from the original parks in Jurassic World 3.

Jurassic World 3 Trailer

With the film's release date not far away, many people are wondering when the trailer for Jurassic World Dominion will be released. It's odd that the massive studio would wait this long to release the trailer, given that they usually take as long as possible to build up audience anticipation. Furthermore, the film has had so many release setbacks that fans are growing weary of the wait. The most likely time for the Jurassic World 3 trailer to be released is during the Super Bowl, or on Sunday, February 13, 2022.

Super Bowl commercials are among the most sought-after spots in the industry. In addition, Universal chose to debut the second trailer for Jurassic World the Fallen Kingdom during the 2018 Super Bowl. Regardless, due to the unstable market created by the pandemic, the film industry has reduced the length of its marketing campaigns. As a result, there are no real guarantees.

Jurassic World's Main Stars Will Return

Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard have both agreed to reprise their roles in Jurassic World Dominion. They've been at the heart of the series since its inception in 2015, so it only makes sense for them to complete the series. Isabella Sermon will reprise her role as Maisie Lockwood, as will Justice Smith as Franklin Webb, and Daniella Pineda as Dr. Zia Rodriguez. Smith and Pineda's characters were not heavily developed in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, but they were both left alive, so hopefully, the sequel will explore them further. Dr. Wu (B.D. Wong) will also return; a morally ambiguous character, he is likely to want to continue his cloning research. Along with Mamoudou Athie, Scott Haze, Dichen Lachman, Campbell Scott, and DeWanda Wise, Omar Sy and Jake Johnson will return.

Jurassic Park's Main Stars Will Also Return

In addition to Owen, Claire, and the other returning Jurassic World cast members, Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Dr. Ellie Satler (Laura Dern), and Dr. Ian Malcolm from Jurassic Park are set to reunite onscreen for the first time since 1993. Director Colin Trevorrow has confirmed that these will not be mere cameos, as the original Jurassic Park trio of Neill, Dern, and Goldblum will appear in the entire film, and together at that. They will also appear in a parallel story to Owen and Claire's that will eventually intersect with them.

Jurassic World 3 Is Officially Done

The Jurassic World film has finally finished production. After production was halted fairly early in the process, audiences were concerned about the potential for a significant delay in the release date. However, director Colin Trevorrow confirmed that Jurassic World 3 is officially finished, which means that more promotional material will be released as the release date approaches.

Jurassic World 3 Opens 65 Million Years Ago

In a surprising first for the Jurassic Park/World franchise, director Colin Trevorrow begins Jurassic World Dominion during the Cretaceous period, revealing the origin story of Jurassic Park's famous T-Rex in the process. Trevorrow made the decision to do this in order to provide something new to fans while also shining a light on a time period that is sure to fascinate dinosaur fans. A five-minute prologue can be seen on YouTube, showing the dinosaurs in their natural habitat before tearing through a movie theatre. The prologue came out on November 23, 2021. While not technically a trailer, it does provide fans with a glimpse of the new franchise's cutting-edge realistic CGI technology.

Jurassic World 3 Introduces 7 New Dinosaur Species

Seven new species will make their first appearances in the Jurassic Park/World franchise in Jurassic World Dominion, another first for Jurassic Park/World fans. A brand new Atrociraptor image from Jurassic World 3 demonstrates that the films will always be dedicated to the destructive Raptor species. Giganotosaurus, Dreadnoughtus, Quetzalcoatlus, Oviraptor, Nasutoceratops, Iguanodon, and Morus Intrepidus are among the other new dinosaurs introduced in Jurassic World 3. Another first will be that some of the dinosaurs seen will have feathers. The Gigantosaurus will most likely get the most attention, fighting the T-Tex in the prologue and later appearing in the present.

Jurassic World 3 Needs Some New Villains

Many of the characters from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom were eaten or otherwise killed by the dinosaurs, so there will undoubtedly be new villainous roles based on the dinosaurs. Wong has suggested that Dr. Henry Wu from Jurassic Park isn't necessarily a villain, but that his actions won't lead to more bad things happening. However, there are many characters in the franchise who have questionable morals, and it will be interesting to see which of them rises to become the antagonist for Jurassic World Dominion.

There Will Be No More Hybrid Dinosaurs

Aside from the refined special effects, the use of hybrid dinosaurs has defined the Jurassic World franchise. The Indominus Rex was introduced in Jurassic World, while the Indoraptor was shrunk in the Fallen Kingdom. According to director Colin Trevorrow, Jurassic World 3 will not feature hybrid dinosaurs. While this plot thread has allowed for creatures with supernatural attacks, it has also diverted attention away from the more classic dinosaurs that Jurassic Park fans fell in love with/feared. As a result, they will not return. Colin Trevorrow has stated that Jurassic World 3 will go "back to basics," with no more hybrid dinosaurs appearing.

Colin Trevorrow Returns To Direct Jurassic World 3

Jurassic World was directed by Colin Trevorrow, but Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom was directed by J.A. Bayona. Trevorrow was still heavily involved, co-writing the script and serving as an executive producer. While some were dissatisfied with his creative choices for Jurassic World, others felt he more than delivered on the film, and the box office figures certainly support that. Trevorrow's return as director for Jurassic World 3 has long been confirmed, and he appears to be the right person to bring the trilogy to a close. He will also co-write the script with Emily Carmichael, with assistance from Derek Connelly on the story.

Jurassic World 3 Is A Science Thriller

Trevorrow appears to be taking a different approach to Jurassic World 3, referring to the film as a "science thriller." To put things in context, he described Jurassic World as an action-adventure film and the Fallen Kingdom as a horror-suspense film. Both of those descriptions are fairly accurate, so it's safe to assume he's also correct about Jurassic World 3. Following the extinction of the Indominus Rex and the Indoraptor, Trevorrow has confirmed that there will be no hybrid dinosaurs in Jurassic World Dominion. This will allow Jurassic World 3 to focus on the original dinosaurs, which are now roaming across North America, as well as the course of nature versus human intervention.

Jurassic World 3 Is Not The End Of The Trilogy

According to director Colin Trevorrow, Jurassic World 3 concludes the franchise. The dinosaurs escaped at the end of Fallen Kingdom, and they'll be on the mainland in Dominion. While the film is the third in a trilogy, according to producer Frank Marshall, it will mark the "beginning of a new era." This means that the stories of Pratt and Howard's characters will be put to rest as the franchise enters a new era, one that may investigate the effects of humans coexisting with dinosaurs. It'll be interesting to see if Dr. Malcolm's warning from the Fallen Kingdom rings true in the third installment.

Plot points could include whether the dinosaurs survive long after their extinction, whether humans will have to annihilate them in order to survive, how the world copes with dinosaurs roaming the wild, and the difficulty of capturing a T-Rex in the wild. Audiences must decide whether this new era is a mistake for Jurassic World 3. Dr. Malcolm claims "Life is uncontainable. Life is liberated. Life always finds a way." That said, by the end of Jurassic World Dominion, viewers will know whether Dr. Malcom's words apply to humans, dinosaurs, or both.
