Review: Vikram K Kumar's last film, Gang Leader, was not everything one could have hoped for, but it was entertaining. The director recycles the 'ghosts of Christmas past' template with Thank You, minus the Christmas but plenty of snow. As a result, you get a lot of cliché mixed in with some emotional and thought-provoking moments. Thank You Movie Review

Abhiram aka Abhi (Naga Chaitanya), the founder of a medical app, is a nightmare to work with. As he improves his wardrobe from tee-shirts to cool sweatshirts and, later, swanky suits, he improves his attitude. The young boy who has never left Andhra and was once excited to see snow and rangula ratnam (carousel) is now an egoistic man who believes he is the sole reason for his success.

His girlfriend Priya (Raashi Khanna) is pregnant but has had enough of his attitude. An unfortunate incident pushes her to go even further and leave him for good. Abhi is now forced to reflect on his life, see where he went wrong, and perhaps even learn some humility in order to acknowledge those who helped him along the way. Thank You Movie Review

Thank You follows Abhi's life as a naive schoolboy from Narayanapuram who falls in love with the zamindar's daughter Parvati (Malvika Nair) and dreams of securing a government job and playing hockey for the national team.

It also introduces us to an irate college student in Vizag who is too preoccupied with beating up his rival Sarva (Sai Sushant Reddy) or getting along with his rakhi-sister Chinnu (Avika Gor) to predict the consequences of his actions. While Abhi's backstory, particularly the Vizag portions, is presented as a mystery, it's nothing new. In fact, if you've seen films like Naa Autograph, Premam, or even Maharshi, you're pretty much set. Thank You Movie Review

Naga Chaitanya's performance as Abhi isn't flawless; he even hams it up in some of the emotional scenes. We know he can do better after seeing him in Love Story. In fact, he's unintentionally funny in a pivotal scene where you're not sure whether he's having a panic attack or a cardiac arrest. He breezes through the scenes where he's supposed to be brooding, but it's not enough to keep you emotionally invested in a film that is heavily reliant on his performance.

Raashi Khanna finds herself in the role of the weepy girlfriend who will abandon a man-child in order for him to see the error of his ways yet again after World Famous Lover. She and Avika Gor make the best of what they're given, while Malvika and Sushanth stand out. Prakash Raj and Easwari Rao are ineffective.

The true hero of this film, however, is PC Sreeram's cinematography. You can't help but notice how beautifully he plays with light, colors, shadows, and textures, and you wish his work wasn't marred by shoddy VFX in some scenes. Thaman S's BGM also works well with the film, but only two songs from the OST stand out. Thank You Movie Review

Thank You does not offer anything new in terms of plot or performances. If you don't mind seeing the same old redemption story, watch this one.
