Xiaomi 13 Ultra Confirmed to Have Variable Aperture and New Camera Sensors; Here's Why It's Important
Xiaomi 13 Ultra

Xiaomi is preparing for the launch of the 13 Ultra, its next flagship phone. The Xiaomi flagship smartphone will be priced higher than the 13 Pro and 13 5G in most markets. The 13 Ultra will make its worldwide premiere on April 18.

Xiaomi had not confirmed any specifics about the debut of their ultimate flagship phone in India at the time of writing. For the time being, the Xiaomi 13 Pro is the company's top-end flagship in India. Meanwhile, ahead of its introduction, the company has released some critical facts about the Xiaomi 13 Ultra camera.

The camera hardware on Xiaomi's forthcoming flagship phone will be vastly improved. The business has now published the device's camera sensor specifications. It will retain the same 1-inch camera sensor as its predecessor. Let's have a look at the Xiaomi 13 Ultra's characteristics, features, and other information that is currently available.

Xiaomi 13 Ultra Might Fix The 1-inch Camera Sensor’s Problem

Xiaomi confirmed that the 13 Ultra, its future flagship phone, would have a quad-camera configuration on the back developed in partnership with Leica. The forthcoming Ultra flagship is now confirmed to have a Sony IMX989 1-inch camera sensor, which is also present in the Xiaomi 13 Pro and the Xiaomi 12S Ultra. Another element announced before of the launch is the support for a variable aperture.

The business revealed that the main camera will allow customers to set the aperture between f/1.9 and f/4.0. At the present, it is unknown whether the aperture stops will be between the two steps, particularly f/1.9 and f/4.0.

In theory, this should help address the one big issue with 1-inch sensors, which frequently fail to focus on areas of the subject completely as you go closer. A narrower aperture should aid in focusing the entire subject. The Xiaomi 13 Ultra will not be the first flagship phone to include the technology, as Samsung did with the Galaxy S9 series in the past. However, the 13 Ultra could be the first smartphone to feature a variable aperture when paired with a 1-inch sensor.

Aside from the main camera, Sony has disclosed that the 13 Ultra will have three new Sony IMX858 sensors on the rear. These will be for the ultra-wide lens and two optical telephoto zoom lenses with 3x and 5x magnification, respectively. Xiaomi has already stated that the camera sensors have been upgraded to include the Leica Touch.

The front will have a 6.7-inch 2K AMOLED display with curved edges. The refresh rate of the screen will range between 1Hz and 120Hz. Finally, the 13 Ultra will ship with MIUI 14 based on Android 13.
